Compared to other current testing methods, Colichrome® MF ECC Plus offers rapid testing with incredibly clear and easy-to-read results. Not only is Colichrome® MF ECC Plus capable of detecting the presence of E. coli and Coliform, you can also determine the number of colonies. (NOTE: If the sample contains Aeromonas spp., they may give a similar appearance to the true coliform).

Due to variation in the ratios of the glucuronidase and galactosidase enzymes among the many strains of the target organisms (especially E.coli) there may be slight variations in colony color appearances.  Each person’s perceptions and interpretations of “blue, magenta, and intermediate” colors may vary and raise interpretation questions. These can be answered definitively by the E. coli/Coliform Verification Kit

Colichrome® MF ECC Plus is similar to the standard Colichrome® MF ECC, except that Plus allows you to verify the presence of E. coli by looking at the bottom of the petri dish in a dark room with UV light. Under UV light, the E. coli will be surrounded by a bright blue-ish fluorescent and the coliforms will not.

  • Extremely accurate and easy to understand results
  • Results in as little as 24 hours
  • 1 bottle has enough media for 10 tests
  • E. coli will show up as dark blue dots, Coliform will appear as dark pink/red dots
  • E. coli colonies can be verified by viewing the bottom of the filter under UV light

How It Works

Colichrome® MF ECC Plus works similar to other membrane filter (MF) media, following the standard methodology using a membrane filtration device

However, unlike other testing methods where results are difficult to read and understand, Colichrome® MF Plus results are clear and precise. After incubating your sample for 24-48 hours at 35° C, any E. coli colonies will appear as dark blue dots. Other Coliforms (Enterobacter, Citrobacter and Klebsiella spp. & others) will appear as dark pink/red dots. The dots will continue to grow in size and intensity up to 36-48 hours.

To enumerate, simply count the number of visible colonies (CFUs). For more detailed documentation and instructions, please see the PDFs below. Remember, we offer free technical support on any stage of the process and would be happy to instruct and advise you.

Additional Helpful and Important Information

Why Colichrome® MF ECC Plus is Better Than Competing Products

Colichrome® MF ECC Plus has two revolutionary benefits over current testing products. First, Colichrome® MF ECC Plus results are incredibly precise and easy to read. With Colichrome® MF ECC Plus, you can even verify the presence of E. coli by viewing the bottom of your petri dish under UV light.

This increase in usability and accuracy doesn’t sacrifice speed. Colichrome® MF ECC Plus results are readable in as little as 24 hours, faster than most other testing products on the market.

Additional Equipment Needed

Colichrome® MF ECC Plus is a membrane filtration medium that requires the standard equipment for any membrane filtration process. If you’re looking for a method of detecting E.coli and Coliform, but do not have the standard equipment, you might be more interested in our self-contained R-CARD® testing method that requires minimal additional equipment.

Why Choose Roth Bioscience?

Dr. Jonathan Roth is one of the most well-known names in microbiology and bacteria testing. He was the first to develop testing methods to use enzyme substrates for producing different colors to distinguish different types of bacteria. Roth Bioscience is still run by Dr. Roth, who continues to offer some of the most revolutionary innovations in the industry.
